It can happen, might be nervous, because all of the pressure to perform well, just got to him and he fell flat on his face.
He might really care about you and hopes to do better.
He might not have much experience or had a bad instructor.
If you interested in him, try talking about it.
He might be eager to please and be a fast learner.
Think of the fun you could have teaching him to do what you want.
