Guys, Are you braver after a few drinks than you are sober?

While some folks seem to be able to express themselves just fine on a regular basis, others seem to require a touch of liquid courage before an encounter with someone for whom they harbor feelings of deep affection.

Personally, I'd rather express myself when I'm fully sober over a nice big cup of coffee/tea, but not everyone's the same.

Perhaps it's just a personality thing, I don't know. What do you guys think? Is it easier to confess your feelings after a drink or two? Can you share why?

This may sound bad to many, but I genuinely think I'm a better me when tipsy. I'm no alcoholic. I rarely drink and only do so socially (maybe like once a month or less on average). But when I do and I'm able to get tipsy, I'm a happier, more confident (care less about what others think; less self conscious), don't overthink what I say anywhere near as much, and everything in my life becomes easy to navigate. What seemed like a 1000 paths suddenly becomes a few, and life seems simple. I have no issues approaching someone and believe it or not, I'm a smoother person and more fun to be around than when I'm sober.

I honestly wish I could be in my tipsy mental state at all times without alcohol. My friends have agreed with me that I just seen more confident, positive, and happy.

If it's just one drink I wouldn't call that tipsy (which is traditionally more a term when you're gonna tip right off the bar stool).

Eh it takes a little more than that for me to get buzzed. I think 2 to 3 drinks in and I'm feeling pretty good

A lot of times alcohol just inhibits their ability to control themselves. Impulsive thoughts win…. Fantasies come to life…. What they really think comes out of their mouth. Self control goes out the window it brings out who someone really is. That includes their feelings for someone or another.

Honestly yes, I used to be better at approaching when I was buzzed. It would lower some self doubt and I would be more social in that situation. But what do you mean by deep affection?

You know… the gal you feel enough for that you feel a bit awkward or nervous around her. Some guys will only really interact with that gal after a glass of wine (bourbon).

If you mean that she’s a stranger in a social setting like a bar then yes alcohol can be helpful to lower inhibitions. If you mean she’s someone known and had deeper emotional feelings then not as much. If that’s what you are asking

I don't know that anyone can establish deep affection for a stranger… that’s just sexual appeal/attraction/“chemistry”…

Correct, that’s why I was trying to clarify your question. Usually liquid courage is used in the sense of breaking the ice with a stranger. If a guy knows someone and she’s been a friend for a long time then alcohol probably isn’t the best idea for making a move in that sense. He would likely want her to show some romantic interest you know

I’m not one to need a drink to be able to express myself, and I’d rather be 100% sober if I have something meaningful to say. Quite frankly, after a few drinks I might say or do something I wish I hadn’t on more than one occasion.

You know I have never really understood why people say that... In my opinion if you have to be drunk to do something that means that you are a coward and a loser. You like a woman then tell her be a man

Not drunk, but… perhaps less uptight or inhibited, which is an issue for some guys.

Well I believe it's normal for us to be like that when we're younger but after a point you must realize that life is short and you have to let yourself go or you will have plenty of regret

Thank you. That's what I say, but I still see fellows in their late 40s/early 50s who need to raise a glass and knock one back before they share their feelings (esp to a woman).

I may not be that age but I have come to realize that you have to tell a woman how you feel or else you're going to lose her

It was sometimes easier if I had one drink (two drinks is my self-imposed limit) but I didn't have a problem taking to a woman when I was sober, and I could make my intentions quite clear.

Honestly yes. I feel like I’m a better version when I’m a little tipsy. The words seem to flow smoother, I’m not stuck w thinking what to say. I’m funnier. I’d say women tend to like me cause everything just seems much smoother. I’m witty, jokes, can make her laugh. I don’t feel at that point like I’m trying to impress her, like there’s a lot of pressure on me.

When I was younger " liquid courage" was the only way I would be confident with women. As I got older I didn't depend on alcohol at all. You're more geniune sober.
