Why is he doing this?

I have this guy at the gym who would stare at me from far but when he needs to ask something , he will ask my boyfriend and not look at me at all or even acknowledge. I'm just curious why he would do that.

I was a waiter, when I was younger. And if a really really attractive girl was out with her man, I would really direct everything to him (the attention). I wanted the tip at the end of it, and I knew if I spent time speaking to THAT particular woman giving her a normal amount of attention, the dude was not going to appreciate it.

He likes you and is afraid your boyfriend will pick up on it.

That's one you can take to the bank.

Thank you because I was so confused, I have seen him glancing and staring from afar but when he came close to asking for a machine or something, he would directly ask my boyfriend and when I even answer him instead of my boyfriend he would not make any eye contact towards me. I found this strange. But now it makes complete sense.

No problem. I used to tell other waiters "I basically pretend she isn't even there. I will talk to him, look at him only, and then like quickly turn and look at her, JUST ENOUGH to not be weird to him. I laughed when I saw this.
