Why is he touching me when talking?

There's this male colleague from another department whom I seldom talk to.

One day, he leaned in close to my face and touched me lightly on the arm while I was telling him something. I didn't know him well (still doesn't) and having seen how he is very close to another female colleague, just thought this might be how he is. Though the touch did feel intentional.

Today, he asked me something and touched me lightly on the arm again. Then his touch extended to the small of my back.

It were light touches, but unnecessary when we were talking about the most innocent and unrelated stuff.

Why could he be acting this way?

PS: I am fat and ugly, and in no way attractive. While he, thought not conventionally good looking, does have his own charisma and is in a popular position

I cannot think of any other explanation for it aside from him flirting. Yea I read your update... but still... that has to be what it is.

This is something that some guys are well aware will be noticed and taken as flirty. It's actually a pretty overt, bold and intense way to flirt with someone. But as you said... it was intentional.

The only way it could be anything else, would be if he had a habbit of doing this when talking to any woman. Doesn't sound like he does.

I cannot think of any other possibility at all.

1. No guy is going to do that accidentally. EVER (unless they had that habit of doing it to everyone)

2. No guy is going to be unclear about how touching a woman will be received. Extremely obvious, intimate contact taken as a form of flirting.

3. No guy would do this to a woman without it being a pre-meditated way to flirt with her in a way she cannot ignore or second guess. It's obvious and can only mean one thing.

He is flirting with you, and wants to make damn sure you realize that's what he's doing.

If you have any other theories... I'm eager to hear them. I can't think of any.

You need to get flirting back if this guy is someone you like too.

He might be using touch to emphasize a point or show that he's engaged in the conversation. Don't overthink it.
