Well... I'm pretty sure we would be diametrically opposed in what we each think is backwards and wrong about what's going on in the world today.

I also generally have a rule for myself to avoid politics on GAG. It's probably for the best that I don't get into what kinds of things I was talking about. I was just very surprised by your answer (as no doubt you would have been by mine if I had elaborated).

So, that's why I'm saying... we have nothing to say to each other that going to get anybody anywhere. So, again, let's just not even get into it. It's pointless.

It's not on the gender thing specifically that I was originally thinking about. I really am trying super hard to not engage in this discussion. And I still won't. I don't believe you're open to having your mind changed. I certainly am not.

I think that people should be able to be whoever they want, however they want as long as nobody is harmed.

Kids are not being harmed. If a kid transitions, its' because of years of therapy, body dismorphia, and suicidal ideation. But it always involves the parent. It's always only done after all kinds of making sure it's genuine.

Talk to trans people. Of any age. Ask them about their experience ask what they want, why they transitioned. Anything about what it's actually like for someone who has experienced this.

I'm not getting into this. I know alredy, I'm going to get nothing but conspiracy theories and right wing talking points.

Unless you're genuinely asking me this in good faith (rather than just to debate this for the sake of arguing or trying to "own a lib"). I do not like seeing trans people treated like there's something wrong with them. They're just people. They obviously want very badly to transition, otherwise it would be way too much to go through. It's a genuine thing. I think everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. There has been a concerted right wing effort to demonize trans people and trans-identity generally. I've been watching this movement coalesce especially in britain and the US. I spend a lot of time and energy knowing my enemy. As soon as you went in with the "they're transitioning kids" I realized who I was talking to.

Once more. I try not to talk politics on GAG for the most part. I am not here for that. I did go to school for politics, and have been into politics since I was quite young. It's not that I haven't thought through my positions.

But things have gotten so ugly over the last decade, that "the right" is living in their own fantasy reality. THat there is some epidemic of ill intentioned amorphous liberals who have some agenda that is transitioning kids. (for motives sometimes left vague, sometimes to promote the LGBTQ agenda.)

Why are there so many more trans people (and kids) than before? Because things changed for the better, and people who wanted to, felt safe enough to do so.

I grew up in a world where trans wasn't a thing. It was ridiculed. I used to do the same without thinking much about it.

I started to change my views when I had my first real conversation with a trans person (a trans man actually).

I have known a few trans people (of both genders). They've been wonderful people.

It's easy to believe you're right when you aren't looking at the actual human beings you're talking about. Get to know a trans person or two. Give them the benefit of the doubt... that they're not some mentally-ill confused freak. You might have a change of heart too. It's just respecting people for being whoever they feel they truly are. Talk to some trans people in good faith, and your mind might change on some of this.

I don't want to get into it. That's briefly why. ANd briefly how I feel. I won't get into pointless debates for the sake of intellectual stimulation. It's not enjoyable for me in any way. Not these days.

So, please. I'm dropping it on my side. Let's leave it.
