Overthinking or?

So I’m new to this town, everyone’s been super sweet. Perhaps I’m overthinking it but just curious what does it mean when a man puts his hand on your lower back? Especially when saying bye? Two different men that have helped me have both done this.

I can only answer for myself but I'm a touchy type. I express love and concern primarily that way.

But it might seem gay if I put my hand on the lower back of another man. I would be tempted if it weren't perceived this way.

I love animals because you can kiss them left and right and touch them a lot and it's totally fine. Also love my wife this way.

So, speaking for myself, it means I care about you and also that you won't find it uncomfortable. If you find it uncomfortable, I will stop doing it, and you don't have to say it because I'm very attentive to body language. But if you are smiling when you do it, I'm happy because I like to express my affection towards people this way.

Apologies if you were looking for a more general answer. I always answer for myself when people ask, "Why do men do this," because I don't have the qualifications to speak on behalf of every man. Also the people who often do having me wanting to respond, "But I'm a man, and that's not why I do that! You are at least wrong about one man!" So I just stick to sharing what this one man -- me -- would do and why I do it.

It's benign. Non-sexual. The lower back is the most non-erogenous part of the body. It's more of a gentlemanly gesture like being helpful or saying "There ya go. Take care."

It means nothing. It is a ‘steadying’ action or a help to move along is all. Guys at times will even do it with other guys they are assisting.
