Why is it when you are quiet and chill people assume you’re stuck up?

There was this co worker who would always just randomly speak to me. I never spoke first because I didn’t know him outside the fact his face was familiar but that was it. We don’t work in the same department or anything and I have no reason to interact with him. I would only speak if he spoke to me. That’s just how I am because it wasn’t like I wanted to get to know him or anything and I know I’m not obligated to speak to everyone. Eventually he stopped speaking and it didn’t matter to me until I noticed whenever I walked by after he stopped speaking he would give me a very nasty stare. One day I heard him say to another co worker “This bitch think she too good to speak.” I paid it no mind because he didn’t say it to me directly but it was weird because it was like. Why do you care if I speak to you or not?

It’s not your job to understand why haters hate, that’s a personal issue between them and god. All you should be worried about is the blatant slandering he’s doing in the workplace. You aren’t obligated to carry on with anyone outside of the status quo. If he can’t handle the lack of engagement and it warrants that sort gossip/name calling I would honestly be petty and tell my manager or supervisor. You only happened to catch him talking smack this time, imagine what else he’s said to other people.

I wish I knew. Most people don't even try talking or having a conversation with me.
