I have a guy friend who I've been friends with for a couple years. When we first met, he had made a joke about kissing me which was weird then said he wish he could take me on a date but I was dating someone at that time. He also made jokes about me cheating on my boyfriend.

Things calmed down between us but every now and then we flirt with each other. He's most likely sexual. I noticed every time I have a crush on a guy he gets really mad about it. He thinks the other guys aren't really good for me and will use me. I had a crush on one guy and he got upset about it. He also says he'll “move out the way” if I date another guy.

So recently I told him I was crushing on one guy and it caused us to get into a big argument about it. During the argument he told me he felt like he was being put on hold…for sex… at first. Then later explain he does like me but doesn't think I feel the same.

This is kind of a messed-up situation and he may even be right about some of this himself but he's definitely a red flag. Anyone who floats the idea of cheating to be with someone is scum. Trying to get someone to cheat shows two things. 1. You don't respect the person being cheated on. 2. You don't respect the person your cheating with. If a guy tries to get you to cheat so he can be with you he doesn't respect you because by asking that he's assuming that you're a slut that would cheat on her SO.

The fact you're getting into arguments about this and he's being so jealous, and domineering when you've never even dated makes this sound to me like this guy is insecure, crooked and controlling. Even if he's right and these other guys your dating are all garbage to me, he sounds like garbage too. Also, the whole. "I'll move out of the way" is a manipulation tactic to make himself appear noble but the reality is if he really meant it, he wouldn't turn into a grumpy angry and nasty bastard when he doesn't get laid. I've been in his exact situation, and you have to bite the bullet like it or not you don't get to guilt trip and bully your way into being a boyfriend. If he was a decent guy he would have made it known, he was available but stepped away when you dated someone and left the ball in your court. Maybe he could ask again when you're between relationships but when you're in one doing this is disrespectful and kind of creepy.

I don't think that this guy is able to differentiate the two. He doesn't understand what it means to genuinely like someone seperately from having sex. He has an unhealthy view of the relationship between sex and the emotional part of having feelings for someone.

There is no exact answer to your question, because those two things are not something he can view seperately. He does have feelings for you beyond just sex, but he is not displaying them appropriately at all.

It's fine to be protective of you insofar as being suspicious that some new guy might possibly not be someone who is going to treat you right. But it doesn't justify him getting angry when you like somebody.

He feels like you're passing him over. That's not a guy who understands how relationships work. He doesn't understand why it's not a matter of "waiting his turn" as your flirty friend until you finally fuck him.

I'm not saying he's a bad guy. But you're crazy if you get involved romantically with him. I bet he doesn't have a history of healthy relationships that have lasted any significant time... right?
