I've wondered this myself. Often. I like breasts, but I don't have a fascination with them the same way a lot of guys do (a girl's butt... is another story). I have thought about this from many angles:

The fact that there have been many times and places throughout human history... where men WEREN"T fascinated with breasts in the same way as they are in Western societies today (the only society I have any experience living in).

The fact that... there was a time not so long ago... where ANKLES were sexy. Showing an ankle was seen as sexual, and was something that there were... essentially strip shows... that stayed below the knee.

In short, I've come to conclude that it's a pure social construct. Breasts are sexy, because we have collectively decided that they're something to be hidden... because not doing so is seen as sexual. For no real reason.

It's like ankles. They're sexy if everyone decides that there is a sexual implication in allowing others to see them.

I think, that just like ankles... if everyone collectively stopped giving them any sexual significance. If nobody thought twice anymore about showing or seeing a breast... they would stop having any sexual meaning beyond being a part of the overall beauty of the female form.

Maybe there's some evolutionary argument to be made here. But I never put much weight into that avenue of explanation. I think that humans are much more complicated than monkeys. It doesn't really come down to hip ratios for child birth, and shit like that.

So to me, it's a social construct as well as I can tell. In other words, a man born into a world where women never wore tops... would not be fascinated with breasts the way they are. It's only because they're hidden because not doing so might be arousing... that they have any power to arouse.

That doesn't make the fascination any less genuine. The fact that it's a social construct doesn't mean anything, aside from the fact that it's an agreed upon thing. It doesn't make it any less sexual in the real world. Anything that is arousing; is only arousing because of the meaning a person gives to it.

Sigmund Freud sexualized breasts by creating a theory that said all children are sexually attracted to their parents before any other sexual partners and said it began with breastfeeding boys.
