I don't ever recall ever downplaying when he called me beautiful. I don't know if I'm being too stingy? Or what?

To preface this he drove 8 hours to see me, he occasionally (not all the time) held the doors open for me opened my car doors. He has my selfie as his background on his phone. But never once said "you look beautiful" i don't know if I'm being ungrateful but it kinda hurt.

What have you done? Seems like he may have said something to compliment you but took it that you dismissed it

Apologise and explain that you don't recall and be attentive when he does something nice. Recognise his efforts and he may grow out of needing to be validated: Don't make a habit of allowing him to be this sensitive toward this kind of thing. It could become a controlling behaviour.
