Not exactly, but sometimes.

A challenge in itself can be fun and motivate you. It is something to chase until you get it. That said once you do, it shifts from challenge to needing to be worth something after too.

A lot of hard to get people fail here. Because they rely too much on encouraging the challenge and forget to actually justify why they are awesome. So you get your trophy and then there you are, face to face with a stranger who thinks they know you but has shown nothing of themselves and done nothing to endear themselves to you.

The problem is not the challenge but that there can not be only a challenge.
