How do I go up and talk to a guy?

I have never been able to just freely go up to a guy and start a conversation. What is some tips or advice?

Just walk up, look him in the eye and smile then start talking.
When I first started going to college, I was in between classes and had to stop outside the gym to re-tie my shoe. While I was sitting there, this gorgeous blonde (Debby Harry meets Marylin Monroe) walked right up to me with this huge smile on her face, held her hand out in front of her, told me her name and said, "I've been wanting to meet you. I saw you in the cafeteria a couple times I thought you were a really neat guy!" It's that simple! She & I were very close friends for the next few years.
Or, if you're in a grocery store you can try the old drop-the-jar-of-mustard-on-his-foot ploy.

Just be nice to everybody and talk to them like you would anybody else. Say "Hi, how's your day going?"

Just random guys. Like at my school. Because I have no experience talking to guys, but I would like to try to make a friend that's a guy

I play volleyball, and tennis. Im 15 and don't have a job yet. I'm not currently in any clubs since school just started.

Us guys are real simple. We like to talk about sports, gaming, classes, what we are doing on the weekend.
How you approach depends on setting. A group hanging out at the football game is easy to insert yourself into a conversation.

Well, if you have a class together you have a ton of topics to talk about. "hey that lecture sucked/was great" "did you have trouble with that assignment/test/whatever". It's not that either of you really care about that crap, it's just a way to get a conversation going.

Until you actually feel confident in your abilities, treat it like practicing to be an actor in your initial meeting. Be warm and conscientious, and the right people will respond to that in kind. Guys can be pretty simple sometimes.

Any guy is fine. I do have one guy in mind that I want to be my target, but any guy is okay.

It’s too much pressure to start with the one guy you have in mind. So instead practice with others.

How do you do it? Count down from 5 to 1 in your head. And then just go.. start walking and say hi. From there you start talking. If you need a starter, look at something you can both see and talk about it.

Yes, that makes sense. So don't start with the one guy I have in mind. But like work my way up by starting conversations with other guys so when I finally think I'm ready to talk to the one guy I have in mine I will have practice. Thank you, that was helpful. I appreciate your advice

You are welcome. That’s right. You get some experience with other people. That adds to your confidence. What’s it about the one guy that you are seeing as a target? What sets him apart?

I just chose him as my target because he is cute, and also he is in one of my classes, and my class only has like 6 people in it so I figured out that he doesn't have any of his friends in that class so it would be easier to like go up to him and start a conversation. I think it would be much harder to start a conversation with him if he had his friends with him. Does that make sense?

Yes, sounds like you like how he looks. I get that you want to talk to him as you think he’s not friends with others in the class but as you don’t know much about him it’s based on him being cute. Have you seen other girls talking to him?

No, I have not seen other girls talk to him.

I am going to try and go up to some random guys and start a conversation this week (hopefully) and I will probably just start by asking what grade there in and if they play any sports or something like that.
