How do you talk to guys?

I haven't had many interactions with guys my age as I am in a VERY female dominated school, the only males being the teachers. Some of my friends find it easy to talk to guys and flirt with them but I'm really awkward and shy. Any tips?

I hear you….


Start with the body language. (Nothing crazy or slutty, ok? I don’t want a letter from your parents complaining.) Smile and let your personality shine through your eyes. Look at the guy you like with that smile and open look in your eyes. Don’t stare. Catch his gaze, hold it a few seconds (like… count to 5) and look away. Do it again (count to 10 this time) and look away. He’ll either think you’re shy and he’ll approach you OR he’ll at least know you’re intrigued by him and find him visually attractive.


Wait a little and see if he’s now checking you out. You’ll know bc his eyes will keep coming back to you. But you need to act like you don’t notice it too much. He needs th at time to figure out if he likes you enough to approach you.


Now… IF he approaches you, smile and say HI. Look him in the eyes when you’re talking to him. Either have something in your hands (a glass, a pencil, your purse) or keep your hands to your sides. Don’t cross your hands over your arms, don’t twist your fingers around and fidget awkwardly. Never keep both hands full. Leave one hand available to touch his arm and laugh if he says something funny or interesting. Stay calm and focused.


If he doesn’t approach you but you feel like you’ll die if you don’t speak to him, make a discreet effort to bump into him — I don’t mean crashing into the guy or anything dramatic, ok? Either HAPPEN to start working near the area he’s working or going to the refreshment table at the same time, etc. Ask him to pass you something that’s closer to him than it is to you. (Or put your pen away and ask him if he has a pen you can borrow…. Or ask for directions.) When he does pass or offer you the thing you requested, your hands should brush against each other, creating a little chemistry. Thank him and make a positive comment about something in the room/area.


If you’ve asked for directions and they’re a little complicated, touch his arm and ask him to repeat the directions for you… then touch his arm again and repeat the directions. It’s a funny sort of way to drag out the interaction but you’ll find it also puts both of you at ease. Guys generally like to fix and explain stuff, so you’re hitting a sort of “sweet spot” when you do this. Sometimes the guy will be gentlemanly (if his mama raised him right) and he’ll offer to walk you to wherever it is you’re trying to go.

doesn't matter if you speak to a girl or boy the rules of conversations are the same. Talk about common interests or shared experiences like how you would open up to a girl and go from there.
