Long eye contact (5+ seconds), smiles, and him trying to talk to me?

For reference, this is a class I'm taking (not university, but a private class that you pay for). He's 1 of 6 teaching assistants.

I think it's normal to look at the audience while speaking. But our eye contact got longer and longer, to the point where it was at least 5+ seconds (I was smiling the entire time, he's cute what can I say).

Then he would keep trying to help me/be nearby to give advice or just observe. Sitting and facing me, opposite everyone else. Or making comments only towards me, when I introduced myself. Including the fact that he's maybe 2-3 years older than me, with similar goals to attend medical school

Uunfortunately, I got nervous and would stay silent when he would try to talk to me (when I was working on the activity with a partner). Then he started avoiding eye contact, except for one or two short peeks again

I feel bad, but wonder if I should still go for it? Eye contact doesn't necessarily mean romantic intentions, but he seems like a sweet/kind guy. Even though I come off confident, I've screwed up past experiences because I just don't know how to handle guys
