My ex and I are caught up in a really toxic situation?

Preface: I’m not looking for definitive answers or explanations (because there really aren’t any). I’m more interested in hearing other people’s opinions.

My ex and I dated a few years ago for about six months, then stayed in contact as close friends. Almost a year ago, out of nowhere, he completely stopped talking to me. I was hurt, because I considered him one of my best friends and still had lingering feelings.

About a month later I confronted him, and he told me he had met someone and wished me well. It was very cold and clinical. I deleted him everywhere, and from that point on we’ve had no direct contact.

A few months later (January of this year), he viewed one of my public Instagram stories. Nothing more happened, so I brushed it off. Then in July, he viewed another story. Then another. And another.

Once I realized it was becoming a pattern, I admittedly kept posting (toxic, I know). Since then, I’ve posted almost every day, sometimes multiple times per day—and he’s watched every single one. I actually tallied it up: 95 stories.

On top of that, he once sent me a Snapchat friend request, but deleted it a few hours later (I never accepted).

I don’t know who he was dating, or if he’s still with them. His accounts are private, but his Facebook relationship status is visible and it says “single.”

Clearly, this is a weird/tired cycle on both ends. I’m not looking for solutions—just curious to hear what others make of this.
