I met this boy the first week of school. He’s tall, tan, a tennis player, charming, polite, and has the most beautiful accent. It was impossible not to like him instantly.
We met in the dorm hallway, talked, exchanged numbers, and he texted me the next day to hang out. We spent the day in the art studio, ate together, and talked for hours. He didn’t try anything physical, which I actually appreciated.
For the next week we kept meeting up. He showed me French music, we talked about God, and I started loving his company as a friend, though I wondered why he hadn’t made a move. Then one day we finally kissed, and it was amazing. When I asked why he waited, he said he likes getting to really know girls first. I liked that.
The next week things got more physical, but I told him I wanted to wait and he didn’t pressure me. The next day, while we were making out, I got nervous because my friend had just gotten herpes, so I asked if he’d get an STD test. He was taken aback, and I panicked and made weird jokes, making it more awkward. He said it was fine, but I could tell he felt weird, and then he left.
That week, he stopped asking to hang out after being the one who initiated almost everything before. After a week of being ignored, I went to his to talk calmly. He denied acting different, but when I apologized for the STD thing, he said it wasn’t that, just that “we were hanging out every day and I thought you’d expect more, and I just can’t.” It seemed hard for him to say.
I was confused. I didn’t even want a relationship I just liked being around him. I told him I wouldn’t reach out anymore and I left. A few days later he called to “borrow a lighter,” and last week, he hearted my selfie on my Instagram story.
Now I’m confused again. I miss his friendship more than anything. I don’t need a boyfriend I just miss him. Would it be a mistake to reach out? Would I be disrespecting myself? I’ve been holding no contact, but I can’t tell if he’s done or just truly scared.

I would give it another try. Did you consider using condoms before the STD test? If u like him ask him out and see how it goes. Tell him that maybe you need to just hit the reset button and start fresh. You say u do not need a boyfriend but it sounds like you want sex with him.. maybe a friends with benefits?
but he was the one who pulled away first - i dont want to reach out to him just to scare him away again and embarrass myself. based on everything, do you think that he'd want a friendship with me again or is he done with me in every sense?
I think he would want a friendship with you. You will never know till you try! Any other guys u are interested in. Hopefully some solo sex also keeps you happy. I say try again but be subtle about it. Let me know how/if it goes
Why would he want to be your friend? No guy wants that.
he said that he has lots of girl friends though - also he clearly doesn't want anything with me, i dont even think he wanted to hookup anymore, so maybe he'd at least want to be friends? i genuinely just miss hanging out with him, we got along really well.
You pissed him off with the STD thing. Again, why would he want to be friends after you disrespected him?
how is asking for that disrespectful - its a valid question and especially in college, lots of people have stuff and can spread it?
Maybe, disrespectful was a poor choice of words on my part. He probably thought you wouldn't put out, or you just weren't the hassle in general.
*weren't worth the hassle
