How to make my man happy?

I recently got a boyfriend in July. He and I get along good, but I have been very cautious and mindful of him still doing what he likes. He is heavy into alcohol and I don't really mind it that much since he is a happy drunk. Yet I noticed my cautiousness and leniency towards him has been irritating him. I always ask what he wants to do, and he always tells me to make up my mind about what I wanna do instead. When he is drunk he tells me more and seemingly likes me more. When he is sober he seems so uninterested. When he is drunk he asks why I dont initiate more and when he is sober he doesn't really like or react when I do. I just dont know what he wants and I don't wanna loose him, and I've asked and he always only says that im over thinking and need to chill out. I just wanna know what universal thing i can do to make him happy. (He is very picky about sexual stuff too so that's not been working too well either.)

Guys just want no fuss. But you should judge him by his sober days and if he is not making any effort to be with you or get to know you then he probably just wants a fuck buddy when he is on the beers
Perhaps hint at someone else being interested in you, to see if he is bothered. Or do the usual thing and think you can change him.
