Do guys mean it when they compliment you?

Im not asking if they like/love you. Just as least, whatever they say is what they mean.

Because i matched with this guy on dating app. We talk for awhile, and he suddenly say “i dont know what you are looking for, but you are very cute” then yada2 we talk, suddenly he unmatch me💀 again, i dont care if he likes me or not, but i just wonder, why u give me a compliment only for u to unmatch later on? Is the compliment genuine to begin with

I would say that the majority of the time, the compliment is true. That said, just because a guy thinks that you are cute doesn't mean he has invested himself into you, so you need to make sure that you aren't assigning more value to a compliment than it deserves.

Most people are attracted to beauty, so even though it's nice if someone finds you attractive, a guy who is only attracted to your looks isn't going to commit to you. A commitment is going to come from a guy who values things about you like morals and values - things that are much more profound than looks. That said, when someone is a total stranger, looks are all they are going to know about you, so that's all they can compliment. The question is do they care enough to try to learn about your morals and values, or are they just being lustful?

A lot of the interest you're going to get - ESPECIALLY on dating apps - is going to be pure lust, and not a genuine desire to get to know you. And, guys like that will be pursuing many girls and will only invest their time in girls who seem likely to give them what they want in a short amount of time, and when they encounter something less than enthusiasm to do that, they move on.

I don't ever hand out a compliment unless I feel it's true, even if it's my partner. If they ask me about their outfit, I'll give my honest opinion on it, whether I love it, hate it, or it's just okay, regardless of if it hurts their feelings or not. If they can't handle the truth, they're not compatible with me. And that doesn't change if someone isn't my partner.

However, not every guy has this policy. Actually, I'd guess that the majority of guys will give girls compliments to get on their good side and get in their pants even if it means it's a lie.

There's some truth to this saying...

"Women fall in love with what they hear. Men fall in love with what they see. That's why women wear makeup and men lie."

It doesn't apply to me as I will not lie, and I fucking hate fake-up. But I do think it applies to the majority of the population.

Depends "what they want from you"...

For example, my friend told me the other day that I'm very statuesque... and I gave him a funny look bc it was the oddest thing for him to say to me as a friend. But then yesterday he called this tiny little thing "statuesque" bc he wanted to get her in bed... (It didn't work, but that's a different story.)

I have another guy in my life who "love bombs" all day long... but for some reason it seems he actually means it bc he doesn't go around doing that to other gals.

Depends on who I’m complimenting.

Some people literally try to force you into complimenting them. “What do you think of my new dress.” At that point I’m going with a joke. But then if they persist “No tell me what you really think.” The compliment will be half hearted at best.

If it’s me giving a compliment without it being forced to any capacity, say, in a situation where I notice someone’s new shoes or shirt or earrings or whatever and I like them. Then obvious the compliment is real.

Depends on the guy I'd say. I'm almost always honest when I compliment someone. The rare cases being when I think someone just needs it. If I had a nickel for everytime someone just needed some validation by society. And I don't mean narcissistic ego stroking. I mean just to know another person sees them and cares. A well timed word can turn someone's day completely around. And why wouldn't you want to do that. It makes the world a better place.

Dating apps are a meat market. My advice is take anything someone says on a dating app with a grain of salt until you meat them.

For myself I only give compliments genuinely but I know very well girl's believe compliments whilst guys don't believe any of few compliments given them.
