What does it mean when a guy want you to compliment him?

Its been few times he brings up a topic that seems like he want me to compliment him. I might think it wrong, but yeah. Do you guys want such compliment from a friend or usually guys do that to someone they have romantic feelings? Because from girls perspective, we usually seek those from guys we are interested in

He actually comes out and says compliment me? Huh I have never had that happen to me before. I wonder if he is a bit insecure and needs an ego boost and that is why he is asking all the time. That is really the only thing that makes sense in my mind. We all like compliments because it makes you feel good about yourself and boosts that go. Maybe that is what he is after. I can't think of another reason.

Nope.. but he was like, praising himself on how well he did for the driving test and how people at the centre congratulates him. He even saying bunch of stuffs, until i was like “well congrats that u pass it in one go” then he seems super happy by it
