Are guys ever sarcastic with their compliments?

There's a guy at work (restaurant) I like who I think might also like me but I'm not sure.

He frequently jokes with me, says he hates me or messes with my stuff. Everyone jokes that were "married" because we argue a lot. He'll do favors for me and when I ask him to help me he'll seem annoyed but still do it. Then when I don't ask, he'll automatically help me (take plates from my hand, open the door, help carry heavy things, etc.).

The other night he stayed after and sat with his friend and I and helped us with silverware (he teased me a few times then too).

I also paid him one time (everyone had to), and I gave him a lot (because I made a lot). He saw it and said "wow! I'm so happy I could give you a big kiss!".

But another time some guy wrote his number on a receipt for me and he saw it and said "call him up!" And I said "no, that's awkward and I'm kind of picky". Then he said "yeah you're the picky type".

One night I had to change from my work clothes because I was going out after (I was just wearing a red summer dress and flats). He saw me and said "you look wonderful". I said thanks then he shyed away from me and never said anything else before I left.

So I'm not sure if he might've been sarcastic? Also I'm not sure if he's just messing around or might like me?

It sounds as though he Is Into you, not only for the laughs and giggles, but Possibly to go out with as well. And perhaps his male ego is feeling you may give him a rejection slip, for you seemingly have not initiated a 'flirt with your skirt.'
The next time you get all dolled up, and he pays you This 'Wonderful' Compliment, smile back at him and say: "Thanks, where are you taking me?" I'll bet You a Tip he will be pleasantly surprised And...reciprocate without rambling.

Thanks! I'm still not sure if he does or not since he kept telling me to set him up with my younger friends (I'm 5 years older) and kept asking how old my sister and friends were. Maybe he's not sure about dating an older girl?

My one friend says he's prob saying all of it to make me jealous because she thinks he likes me. She's caught him staring at me and other coworkers say I'm the only one he really talks to (even my coworkers friends mentioned how he likes me).

Also I told him to text me when his friend was done making me a cd (his friends a dj) and he said he didn't have my number and that his phone was broken (I think it's true because he broke his other phone and had an old flip phone).

So I don't know how to contact him or what else to do for making moves. Any ideas?

Okay, I see...perhaps it may bother him a tad bit about the age difference, but that is Not bad only 5 years. The only thing, if you don't have a number, is facing him at work when you see him. He seems to like you. Find out if he wants to hang out? xx

Yeah maybe he is backing off after he found out my age (although he thought I was his age before I told him haha).

But I'll prob ask if he wants to hang out or tell him that we should hang out some time. I thought I had a feeling he likes me too. Thanks! :)

Well, what he's doing right now sounds as if he's playing, "hard to get." He's luring you in, than isn't. But it really depends on the guy. Some are the pickiest things ever and some like whatever they can get. You should ask a guy friend of yours to maybe ask! *thats what I would do.* Thanks for asking!

Thanks! I can't tell if he's the picky type because his friends say "he's got game" and all the girls at work say he's "so hot". So maybe he's cocky and knows he can get what he wants, idk.

He does ask me to set him up with my younger friends (I'm 5 years older so maybe he's scared of that?) so I wasn't sure if that's playing hard to get too?

But then the same night he'll do things like jokingly ask how his muscles look in his shirt and let me fix his hair for him or randomly hug me.

No one knows I like him except for a couple friends (unless it's obvious I'm flirting). I don't know if I'd tell his friends and have them ask because they might think it's weird since I'm older.

Should I try a more direct approach?

I've never met a guy whose sarcastic about that, but there are some who are used to sarcasm in some other ways maybe when they are complaining about something

He probably doesn't dare to make a big move and you neither. Try to take some time for a good chat and see what happens. But the story sounds good.
I don't think he's sarcastic, he sounds as if he's hoping you'll "bite".
You'll have to decide whether to do it or not.

Thanks! A couple nights ago I decided to ask him for his number. His friend is making me a cd so I told him to text me when it was done. Then he said he didn't have my number and that he doesn't have a phone anymore-his other one broke (I think this is true since I saw his old phone and it was an old flip one).

Also the other night he kept telling me to set him up with my younger friends and to help him out. So that's making me confused too.

I'm quite a bit older than him (5 years) so maybe he's freaked out that I'm older?

Everyone at work says he likes me now, they caught him staring at me and supposedly I'm the only one he really talks to. Another time recently he hugged me for no reason. He also stayed really late the other night to help me out even when he said he wouldn't.

But even if he does like me, I have no idea what to do now since his phone is broken, id have no way of contacting him.

Perhaps, next time you see him, ask with a big smile if he would like you to hug him back :-)
Than say something like "tell me when I must let you go... this is so nice!".

He could be sarcastic, or just like to tease you.If that's his way of making compliments, in my point of view it's very immature.Sarcasm could also be like defense system for him, because maybe he is actually shy to show feelings for you in a real way.

making a compliment in a way you can back it of as sarcarm is the best way to not let a attention whore be the one who gets it. If she gives a fuck of your compliment you don't feel rejected and time wasted. arrogant girls shouldn't get it either. only cute likeable ones.

I have a girl who is a friend and we are always sarcastic to one another with her being a bit more then me, she already has a boyfriend, it was just something random that she said we already talk about enough stuff personal so it's not like I was fishing at all.
