Guys, Why didn't he acknowledge me (just would like some outside perspective on the situation)?

For background: A few months ago, I developed feelings for a coworker. He gave me mixed signals that led me to believe he was somewhat interested in me too, and he could tell I liked him. Before I left the job, I gave him my number and he reached out within 24 hours. The texts were pretty dry and I felt like I was more interested than he was, plus he didn’t talk to me much at work. I pulled him aside to explain that I was getting mixed signals and just wanted to know where he stood (bc I didn't want to put energy into trying to maintain some sort of situationship/relationship if he wasn’t into it). He explained that he just got out of a bad relationship and wasn’t looking for anything. I was understanding and told him he knows how to reach me if things were to change, to which he stated he was really sorry and wished he was ready, and stated that he hadn’t been the best and hoped that I didn’t take him not talking to me as disrespect.

I no longer work there because I moved. We’ve been no contact for the last few months (I have been giving him space and he just hasn’t reached out). With the holiday season, I was back in town and wanted to visit friends at the old workplace, knowing fully well that he’d be there. I wasn’t expecting anything from him other than at least a hello or “how have you been?” Even if he wasn’t interested or things felt awkward, I knew him to be the kind of person who is still nice and well-mannered and will engage in small talk. But while I was visiting, he didn’t acknowledge me. He didn’t say hi, he didn't talk to me, he didn’t even look at me (from what I could tell). I felt invisible as he talked to others standing right next to me. It all very awkward and cold. Granted, I didn’t say anything, but that was more so because I was just following his lead. The only time he said anything to me was when we almost ran into each other (“That’s my bad,” “sorry about that”).

It just seemed a little out of character for him. Want others’ perspective

Note: This isn’t to determine whether to “wait” for him. I’m moving on to find a partner who is ready now. However, I’m curious about a guy’s perspective on this
