I don't sense it. I can tell by observation. The way they look at her or act around her, and the way they gravitate toward her.

Not only can we tell, we can tell usually what his motives are. Probably much like women can tell what other women's motives are with guys. It always amuses me when I can see a woman who's smitten over a guy. But it's quite obvious he's just playing her.

It's a situational awareness type deal. There are certain behaviors and body language that guys can sense if there is "competition".
