Why do men say condescending and contradicting things?

Date1: We shared stories and values. He was divorced with a son and intended to remarry. He boasted about his spending. We texted frequently, with him sharing our days details.

Date2: he began boasting about other women pursuing him, hinting at one whom might "succeed." I said “good luck” he was unpleased. Said his partner should love him more than he does. He criticised his ex-wife which I refused to join so he gave a backhanded compliment: "You look average at first sight, but people see your inner beauty."! I decided it was a dead end, he seemed like he’d gaslight me that we never dated.

Date3, unplanned meeting occurred after a family emergency. While insisting on checking on me, he carefully phrased statements for later denial. He stated he’d only provide a "basic life," was glad I was "low maintenance" knowing my privileged background, then declared he never intended to remarry. He added I couldn’t have a temper, as I must calm him and be "lady like." Matching his ambiguity, he eventually declared it’s better end things as he needs to "protect his heart" due to my move. And I’m stealing his son’s time (didn’t know he had him that week) Assured me he’d never use anything against me in the future?

He resumed contact days later. After no response, he appeared at my gym. During a tense ride, he asked about a love song he’d sent that I ignored. I said I wasn’t a fan (controversial artist). He snapped, "You were a nice girl before," calling me cold and manipulative for honoring his decision. I reminded him he’d ended it. He claimed I wasn’t affectionate enough.

He then asked me to introduce him to my cousin. When I said he wasn’t her type, he seemed satisfied, assuming my jealousy then mentioned the woman interested in him. Offering my support again, he landed a final blow: "You’re so liberated only a *Specific Ethnicity* man would accept you.

All this in a span of a week He still contacted me afterward, even with new numbers and accounts. I never responded!
