Guys, What does it mean when a guy asks for your IG instead of your phone number?

A guy who everyone knows is a player had asked me for my phone number a while back. I texted it to him and we've been in contact ever since. (On and off bc I don't really like the way he treats women.) But a friend of mine came up to me all anxious that he asked for her IG and she wanted to know what to do. I shrugged and asked what does she WANT to do; I'd already warned her that he was a player. He'd been chatting up another gal friend of mine and asked for her number.

I don't get what the difference is between the women he asks for their number and the gal who he only connected with on IG. I'm sure it's part of some game/tally, but I'm curious what the difference is.

May want to look at her profile and see what she posts/what she seems to enjoy, if she posts a lot. Could also just be asking for her Ig because it's lower pressure/less personal than asking for her phone number.

I think people take the IG thing super seriously. To me it felt like he was telling her she's not worth asking for her number.

A man can learn WAYYY more about a woman from her IG than her phone number. I usually ask for a girl's insta before anything else because I can see if I want to get to know her better or if she's just for the streets.

Should be obvious, but he might be checking out what hobbies you're into, lifestyle, how narcissistic you are, etc. You might find out stuff that would otherwise take you a 6 month relationship to discover.
