Can you be physically attracted to a best friend but not be in love?

I'm confused. I thought that was the general definition of being in love, but when I recently asked a man with mild Asperger's Syndrome, for whom I feel that way and regard it as being 'in love' with him, which my neurotypical friend confirmed, (I have mild Asperger's Syndrome, too); if he is in love with me, he described both feelings that I have, love like family, with some physical attraction; and said he's not in love with me yet, that it takes time.

Yes, physical attraction and love aren’t always the same thing.

You can recognize that someone is attractive or feel a level of chemistry without it turning into romantic feelings.

With close friendships especially, familiarity and comfort can create attraction, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the deeper emotional shift into love will happen.

Physical attraction and an emotional bond are conditions that need to be filled before I can fall in love with someone. It's not like a flash or a great show of fireworks. No Cupido pointing arrows at you or him. You will know within 2 seconds of meeting someone if attraction is possible. But it's only a starting point.
