Was this encounter a scam or kidnapping attempt, and how can I legally protect myself?

I was at the bus stop when a guy asked where I worked and what bank I use. He said he has a business and could help me earn extra money—around $200 a week. He claimed that if I said I worked at a construction site, it would help us make money. Then he offered for me to get into his car.

Why were you talking to this guy? You can't really believe some dude at the bus stop is going to offer you anything of value. He would have paid you $200 to turn a trick in his vehicle.

Don't buy a weapon. You will be overpowered and it will be taken and used on you. Get headphones. They convey a message that you don't want to talk. Wear them with the volume off or low enough that you are aware of your surroundings. Ignore randos trying to talk to you. Nothing good will come of it.

After watching women and even dudes getting abducted like in a crazy amount on youtube, which is just what's caught on video... I believe it. They kidnap them to rob them and then hold them hostage to extort money out of the families.

I already know girlsaskguys will slam me if I tell you what to bring to protect yourself... they have a real hard on for that. So with that said, I just want to say I believe you... if you felt it was an attempt, it probably was.

He was probably trying to get your interest in a scam. But it's concerning that he also tried to talk you into getting into his car.

For self defense, there are some good pepper spray products out there that can immobilize an assailant up to 12' away and even contain a UV Dye Identifier.

You don't need weapons , he offered you a ride you declined , he didn't try and force you in the car ( no kidnapping ) just be self aware and understand he was probably trying to get you involved in a scam.
