What is the psychology of people who insist on arguing with the cops to their own detriment?

The guy in this video would have just gotten a ticket, but he managed to argue himself right into jail. I don't understand what he gained from doing this other than trouble. He is very fortunate that the police were as professional as they actually were in this situation because his demeanor and language were infuriating.

I don't know. My brother drove like a maniac as a young man and always tried to convince the cops that they shouldn't give him a ticket because it wasn't his fault for doing it, it was their fault for being there to catch him. Of course, this never worked.

I guess we could safely say they suck at self-control lol.

And there's probably more to say but it's hard to legitimately talk about their psychology without sufficient elements about their behaviour and speech.

I'm going to speculate that it has to do with paranoia, anger, and a need for control that they didn't previously have. The guy that's doing this was a prisoner for a very long time and was released from prison after it was found that he had been imprisoned on baseless charges.

Ahhh then that story makes more sense suddenly, yes, being imprisoned is already traumatic but being on baseless charges is the absolute best of the worst. Because how can you trust any authority after that? Then any authority figure must have the face of the enemy. Paranoia is a totally reasonable guess !

It’s like they are fighting for that last scrap of power and control, like that rebellious kid in school who won’t listen and tells the teacher “you’re not my parent”. Struggling just to struggle when you know it’s already over, just pure foolish pride and stupidity.

It's generally a response to childhood trauma, including harsh parenting. There's even a name for it: Pathological Demand Avoidance.
