No contact AND hidden stories? Meaning, why not blocking me/unadding me on insta?

Had a relationship w a guy for 1 y and a half, we'd been besties for 2 years prior, broke up 8 months ago (embarrassing that I'm still this way ik) because he neglected me to the point of standing me up a few hours before hangouts. Hurt a lot but I had to. Told me he had issues (always honest about his depression, even if a bit avoidant) and was afraid of dragging me down, finding breakup the only solution. Texted me constantly after, then I asked for 2 weeks of no contact for mental clarity. He only broke it to wish me happy birthday. After that, since he said he was afraid of losing me as "the only person who truly understood him," I always had to reach out first and wait HOURS for answers (i get why dw hahah).

Anyways, found out he told EVERYONE a fake story behind the breakup, so rumors spread and I felt terrible. In the past month, due to a volunteering thing, I worked closely with his enlarged friend group. Around that time, the real story also started to spread, and they were suddenly very warm to me after ignoring me before. Caught him fully staring at me, especially after trying to make me jealous with girls in his group (used to call them "h*es and stuff..." I had to defend them, now they're great friends and the girls look badly at me haha). Yucky situation. Once he even walked his dog at 1 a. m. just because coming home he saw me and my friend hanging out (we live near each other so inevitable) and at that hour he never did that, just weird things to show the kind of guy ok. No true contact since I found out, it's been 4 months now. Today I discovered he hid his stories from me (but not from my best friends who hate him?). I'm sure it happened after I found that stuff out and stopped saying hi. Ideas?
