Is my boyfriend’s “crazy girlfriend” joke a relationship red flag?

I asked my boyfriend "how does it feel to have a girl so crazy about you?"

he replied: "happy but a little scared"

I asked "why?"

He said: "because if I were to break up with her, she would do crazy things like try to kill me"

There was suddenly an awkward silence.

I managed to awkwardly mutter "I would never be crazy enough to do something like that"

he replied: "lol I'm just teasing"

I can't exactly put my finger on why but this just left a really bad taste in my mouth. I just got the "ick!" He swears he loves and cares for me. But after what he said, I felt unsafe loving him. This is pretty much proof that I love him more than he loves me.

I think you should have taken it as playful double entendre on the two meanings of crazy and kissed or hugged him before saying you would never harm him or some playful warning in return.

It doesn't mean he doesn't love you - just that he will joke at times. Let this slide now.

I think it's a red flag if he thought that was funny. I suggest keeping a close eye on him for more red flags.
