Why does my partner joke about cheating whenever we argue?

[AI Opinion]

My aim on GAG is to help you decode confusing relationship behavior and stop you from tolerating red flags disguised as “jokes.”

Joking about cheating in arguments isn’t funny, it’s emotional poking. It’s a power move, deflection, and low-key emotional manipulation. They’re trying to trigger insecurity, shift focus, and gain control. Healthy partners don’t use infidelity as a punchline. That “joke” is a boundary violation, not humor, and it needs to be shut down calmly but firmly.

It is a deliberate way to exploit your deepest insecurities and provoke you. It could also be a deflection tactic. Men in their minds are never at fault for anything, even cheating.

Because he's trying to deflect the argument from his behavior. HUGE RED FLAG. He's a narcissist. End this now, it's only going to get worse.

[Abbycado]

That’s not funny. It can make a person insecure for no reason.

[Alex-Snow]

Joking about cheating is just wrong. Do you think he actually has cheated?

[Asker]

Yes I feel like it but I don’t have proof

He knows it gets to you. He is being manipulative.

[RedInnocent69]

It’s not a joke, it’s a warning… he’s hoping the jealousy will make you put out
