Why do you think people tend to dislike people who can be considered "goody-goodies" or "goody-two-shoes"?

We all know those people that don't break ANY rules / laws, don't do anything "risky" / "crazy", don't do any drugs (including tobacco / alcohol), always aim to excel in their schoolwork or job...

...

...

...and personally, I frankly don't understand why people can dislike a person like this, but I know that people of ALL ages do, especially middle school / high school age people. My 12 year old brother is one of those ppl, and simply I don't get it *shrugs*.

So, presuming these people AREN'T snitches, why do you think that people have such hatred and disdain for people who are, overall, law-abiding, productive & goal-driven people that are favorable by parents, teachers, and bosses?

All the "goody two shoes" (my interpretation) I've ever known were rich and arrogant. Just because mommy and daddy are rich and want you to be their golden child, it frustrates me. Most of them have no common sense whatsoever but they're book smart and their parents don't teach them anything. One of these goody two shoes once asked me why I work so much and I flipped out.

I'm very hard working and driven and never been in trouble with the law, but I'm no angel and I can't relate to these people at all.

i said B.. ya sometimes it does annoy me.. but I try to accept people for who they are and if they annoy me.. I'll not spend much time with them unless I have to.. like this girl in one of my classes always was asking tons of questions to the teacher and drove everyone else crazy because she was holding up class so much from her questions.. she was very nit picky about the details.. so ya.. I just try to be positive about them and not judge them.. hope I helped.

I think it might because humans are quite competitive. Goody-goodies might often win the favours of authoritive figures, so we might see them as deceiving or manipulative.

They also seem quite self-confident and talk in a manner that makes them sound like know-it-alls which can make some of us cringe in jealously or annoyance.

I don't mind, but I would think that the reason for not liking them is because they assume that the goody-goodies have a warped sense of reality and have never been unfortunate to experience the hardships of life and may still firmly believe in the fairy tale life complete with a happy ending.

Would a goody two-shoes break an unfair law like the Jim Crow laws of the south? most likely no.

Some are pretentious, some are kiss asses and seem like door mats for the people they are trying to impress, some try to stop other people from having fun because they think it is wrong (rats), they can take things far too serious and be a downer, some are attention whores, etc.

There are many possibilities. Perhaps they think the "goody-goodies" are lying to themselves since none is perfect. Maybe they find them boring. They could even be jealous.
