How to ask a guy what's wrong?

So I have this guy friend before he went on vacation he was really fun and out going and would sometimes sit really close to me or stand really close to me. He would wait for me before walking, and ya. Well, when he came back and we hung out it was the exact opposite, hardly any talking, putting lots of distance between us and would walk ahead of me and not even slow down. It was really awkward and I have a strong feeling I know why he was acting that way. Well I'm hanging out with him again and I don't know if he's going to be weird, but if he is, how do I ask him what's wrong? like how can I do it without pushing too hard but getting some answers so I don't feel so confused? please help.

I still don't know what was really wrong the day that he was acting weird but I just hung out with him and he was pretty much normal, there were somethings that were different, but I figured that would be the case. Anyways thanks for the advice.

Just ask him. Be nice and polite about it. Don't pressure him and let him know that you just noticed he was acting different and were worried. Also tell him *even though I know you want an explanation* that you respect his privacy but that you were just worried and you wanted to know whats going on. He might not tell you, but if you show him that you are worried about your relationship and what is bothering him and you aren't getting testy with him he will be more willing to tell you what it going on. Even if he doesn't tell you he might not have realized he was doing those things and if you ask him about it if it doesn't have to do with you he might not tel you but he might change the behavior. Well, the first thing I'm going to ask you is do you have a new guy in your life right now? Are you seeing anyone? Because sometimes I know that before I was in a serious relationship I would be talking to guys and just getting to know them well yano? But it would stop when they got with a girl. Which happened a bit because I don't rush into relationships.

So just try asking him calmly about it. What's the worse that could happen? It will be direct and he couldn't just leave you hanging. :]

When I try asking girls whats wrong I usually start with our usual conversation - the how was your day, whatever and when I sense somethings wrong I usually just slip in: "Whats on your mind? What do you want to talk about?" But I give it a second and say "anyways, ..." and I keep on going on about what I was talking about and when they feel comfortable about whats bothering them they bring it up. And usually as soon as I start to continue talking, I get interrupted. But if I don't get interrupted I wait for them to start starring off into space, or pay less attention, something like that (you know when they start thinking of their problem) and then I say "hey, whats wrong?"

With me I think the best way to ask would be something like "latly you seam like your upset and I was woundering what's wrong" because I like it when people are direct with me and don't beat around the bush a lot it makes things more simple

If you take him out for a few drinks and get to talking he'll start loosening up and eventually spill the beans. It happens to me all the time. I get a little buzz, feel happy and start telling people how great they are, say things I shouldn't, etc.
