Why do goth, punks and emos don't like preppy people?

I am just wondering cause my friend Kelly is goth and my friend Wes punk. When I met their friends (goth and punk mixed) they hated my preppy friend Jen and told me aside why is a cool kick ass punk girl like me hanging out with a annoying prep like her? I am just wondering is it just my friend or do they hate everyone?

when I was in high school the preps were always looking down on any other group and thus most other people shunned them. Allot of the preps were french immersions (people that came over from an all/mostly french school) and from what I understood they didn't like most people who couldn't speak french as well as they could.

Canada is supposed to be bi-lingual but almost everyone speaks English.

hum... any way it's prob a culture thing where they don't like any preps not just because of who she is.

Punks don't view preps as 'another subculture'. Preps are viewed as beig supportive of the overall mainstream culture that punks/etc view as corrupt at worst and shallow at best.

They're still immature and think it's "cool" to hate each other and that makes them "fit in better" with the crowd they want to try to be a part of, I'm a "goth" type chick but most of my friends are pretty normal people, but it sounds like they're still in their "I need to be as stereotypically douchy as I can because I'm so cool and better than everyone else" type phase

By virtue of the question you're asking, I would assert you're no better than them. You're doing pretty much the same thing they were. Why not reserve judgment on an entire group of people til you know more than two asshoIes?

Punks and goths view preps as conformists and vice versa. It's all about belief in conformity
