Why do girls act ditsy?

i can't stand it. I like having intelligent conversations with ladies as well. I'm not saying all girls are ditsy or what not but I know quite a few pretend to be imbecilic which bothers me greatly.

They think it's cute. It's like that pout so many of them use when they take a picture of themselves -- it annoys the hell out of me. While a rare girl can pull it off, most end up looking like a goldfish. I don't know if they're trying to appeal to a guy's desire to be the smartest one in the room, or his protective instinct, but the only thing a ditsy girl inspires in me is my gag reflex! xD

Hrm, one more possibility. They could be trying to channel the Barbie persona -- we have Hollywood and the music industry to blame for that. With girls like Jessica Simpson walking around, a few guys think she's hot and the next thing you know girls are trying to imitate her big tits, small brains routine. The ditsy thing has been around longer than she has, but she's the first one that came to mind.

Ya I can't stand it either. Makes me want to do bad things for no reason. I think as Patton Oswald best put it, "We had fallen into this Alternate Earth where the towers fell, Paris Hilton is successful... in the Earth next to ours the towers stood and Paris Hilton had been eaten by wolves"

i think they do it because in a way in reminds them of being a child again, the simpler things in life like, why is the grass green? or something liek that (btw the answer is chlrophyl, sp?) instead of getting into convos of did o get that bill paid etc..., it reminds them of a simpler time

When girls do that all the time, I think it's because they think it's cute or what guys want. Like acting clueless/helpless will make guys want to take care of them. Or they could actually be that clueless. . .

But I have to say that when I get comfortable around someone, I'm more likely to say something without thinking. Last semester, I got pretty close to a guy I was working with in a class, and he told me I had these golden moments where I had brilliant ideas, but I also said some of the dumbest things he's ever heard. We all have our moments.

I hate it when there are girls who think that if they act like a brain dead retard, and talk like babys, that will get a guys attention.

it amazed me though, back in highschool, just how much guys flocked to girls like that. I mean, if talking about the latest hair straightener, or, "dose my hair look good?" "like omg totaly!" GRRR! the patheticness infuriates me.

Yes. I didn't like that aspect of high school and saw the 'flocking to' that you had mentioned and was surprised how many guys would do so. It makes me want to be irrationally violent.

Its true though.. I'm not sure why, but maybe its because they came across as easy and niave. . .but I'm glad those guys came nowhere near me.

Because some guys can't take intelligence. My dad told me once, that even though I was pretty I am way too smart. He told me that if I would just let the guy think he was smarter then me, then I would do way better. He said that I should just "smile and spin" And so far that's true.

i know quite a few girls do that, and it irratates the crap outta me, but I have come to find that a lot of girls act this way because there are a lot of guys that flock to girls like that, I think men may think that the ditsy or stupid girls are easier to get into bed and that's just sad

I do act ditsy a lot of the times but I don't do it on purpose and I do annoy myself sometimes-people actually do think I'm doing it on purpose sometimes which really annoys me because that'd mean I'm desperate for attention which I'm not. Some girls just can't help it and of course there's the girls that do it on purpose which I hate.

Because some girls think that's what guys like. Some guys seem to prefer ditzy girls and act like they don't like intelligent ones, so that's where girls get the idea to downplay their smarts and go for the "is that chicken or fish" persona.

You know no matter how much I try to put a straight face, people see me as cute and innocent.
