What do girls consider rugged manly?

Question

Why do you Ladies always say you prefer rugged men, I mean literaly all. But than you only name pretty or boyish looking male celebs you find hot or like to have a fling with.

I consider Channing Tatum, Johnny Depp, James Franco, Ryan Reynolds, Jude Law, Jake Gyllenhaal, Wentworth Miller, Ian Somerhalder, Orlando Bloom etc. not as rugged manly, but these guys are mostly mentioned.

Rugged manly to me is Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Russel Crowe etc.

Or do you girls have a different view of rugged manly.

I mean there were girls on this forum who said they prefer rugged manly, but in antother thread they said Orlando Bloom is the hottest guy, lol?

Please explain. What do you consider rugged. 99% of the young girls I see on the street or in Clubs are with pretty boys.

Here's the evolutionary oppinion...

As women get older, they are more attracted to men with more rugged features, such as facial hair, a stronger jaw line, etc. As a woman gets older and gets to a more mature stage of her "time clock", she is more interested iin mature men. It's very subconcious. But younger women are often still attracted to guys with more youthful faces, characterized by narrower jaws, noses, etc. They are still interested in that teen heartthrob look, which is fine. A lot of this is just genetics and age. The more driven a woman is by her biological clock, the more attracted she will be to a man who has stereotypically manly features, because she will be subconciously driven to features that suggest fertility. 15 year-old Susan might think Justin Beiber is "cute", but her subconcious nature is to be protected at this age. 25 year-old Susan might want Jason Statham, because he's "manly", and these are the features of a man who can get you pregnant and raise a family. I don't mean to imply that it is that simple, or that the way a man looks actually has anything to do with his fertility, but from an evolutionary standpoint, it used to. Here is what I mean...

A study was conducted recently where a large number of women were brought every week, and shown photos of men. They had to rate how attractive the men were on a scale of one to 10. The results showed that the men who were more "rugged" were rated as more attractive while women were ovulating. When you think about this from an evolutionary standpoint (which they did), this means that women subconciously looked for a "manly man" during this time, because those features are associated with fertility, strength, etc. Basically, this is when women subconciously look to get laid. But when women were menstrating, they found the guys with softer features more attractive. From an evolutionary standpoint, these men typically had less testosterone (although that doesn't mean they do nowadays) and were more likely to stick around after getting a woman pregnant. While ovulating, women were driven by their hormones, but while menstrating, women were driven by their desire for a companion. Nowadays, we know that men's looks dont' say anything about their personality, but we know that humans are still driven by these primitive desires. Take it or leave it, but it's facinating research regardless. Hope this helps!

Depends. I don't care much for most actors because they are not "real" to me, just the Hemsworth brothers (especially Liam, really attractive!). Rugged to me is when the guys come in from the harvest. Nothing hotter than a 6'3" Dutchman with a 3-day beard that's spent the last 6 weeks out in the fields. I prefer real men who earned their muscles at work, not in a gym.

Every girl is different. What I like when it comes to looks is different from most girls. Sure, I've dated a pretty boy, he was really attractive in a classical way but I was with him because he was and still is the nicest guy I know. I also worked with a male model, no idea what others thought was attractive about him.

Well some of the celebreties you named, I would consider rugged like channing tantum or Jake Gyllenhaal. Other examples would be the guys from supernatural

It's rather hard to descirbe but I think it pretty much boils down to having a massiv body built (not super massive but just a bit broad) and a bit of facial hair.

Most young girls are with pretty boys because most guys their age aren't really rugged. Even for celebreties that look usually comes with age. Maybe around 25 - 30.And also while it may be attractive other things are attractive too. I'm sure no one would argue that chace crawford is particulary rugged but most would agree that he is very attractive

Not every girl is gonna be attracted to the same type of guy. Some girls like rugged looking guys, and some girls like boyish looking guys.

Like me for example. I'm asian, yet people say I'm unattractive. Guess what, I got an 8 year old daughter and her mom was a russian model, what are they gonna say?

The truth is, your not gonna attract them all.

The preference tends to change as women age.

Younger girls (tweens to very early 20's) tend to be into girlier-looking guys like Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.

As they get older, their taste changes to more manly-looking guys like George Clooney, Daniel Craig, etc.

There aren't a lot of celebrities who are the perfect combination of RUGGED/MANLY and ATTRACTIVE.  I'm a black girl so I don't find most of those guys you listed attractive, however a lot of girls like pretty boys like Trey Songz, Lloyd, Diggy Simmons, etc even though they look like they couldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight.  They just have cute faces and appeal to womens softer side.  They're like the kind of guy who would seranade you and make you feel romantic.  But that doesn't mean we only like one type of guy.  I think Diggy Simmons is cute as hell but he wouldn't satisfy ALL my needs, that's where they rougher masculine tough rugged guy comes in.  I can't really think of any celebs off the top of my head who are rugged AND attractive tho...but I know it when I see it

i think of hugh jackman, viggo mortensen (as strider) javier bardem, stephen dorff.

vin diesel and jason strathem are way too clean shaven the prerequisites are:

-strong jaw line.

-some serious disheveled beard/stubble action

-a few lines on the face suggesting hard living and character

basically, it shouldn't be too far fetched to imagine they've been on long voyages through arctic blizzards or entrenched in the jungle engaged in guerrilla warfare fighting for noble causes

It really depends on the guy, I can be attracted to someone who is not rugged.  There has to be something more than the physical side of a man that attracts me.  The guy at the moment that attracts me is not per say rugged, he has a slight beer belly, his hands are small, but he has this look in his eye that is just down right devilish.  When walks he struts, and he has the cutest behind.
