What's your definition of an hourglass?

On a question I asked earlier I was told that I did not have an hourglass figure but pear because my bust was not exactly equal to my hips (39-25-40).

I personally feel that the requirements of an hourglass are:

1) That the woman must have a waist at least 12 inches less than her hips

2) That the woman's hip and bust measurements must be within 2-3 inches of one another.

Sofia Vergara (picture here: link ) is a good example of this (measurements 37-28-39).

What's your personal definition of the shape?

The woman has broad shoulders which are within inches of her hips

The woman has a bust EXACTLY equal to her hips

The woman has a bust within 2-3 inches of hips

technically your measurements aren't of an hourglass but pear but I'm trying to look up stuff on it and can't find much because all they do is show shapes. all I know is marilyn monroe set the hourglass standard which is that the hips and boobies are the same and waist 12 inches less

your waist is tiny though. what's your secret? lol

but Monroe had a flat booty from the back (see: link ). I think that's the difference between me and her. If Monroe had 2 more inches on her butt then she would still have an hourglass figure (in my opinion at least).

I have no secrets for my waist although I really want to start corset training soon (ideally, I would have a 23 inch waist like Monroe)

well I asked my friend who works in a department store and she said those measurements are pear shaped. at least be blessed your curvy

Well, Channel 4 says I'm an inverted triangle, the calculator says I'm an hourglass, and the 3rd link is kinda vague.. I guess I'm a cross between an inverted triangle and pear according to it (it says that for an hourglass shape your waist has to be 8-12 inches smaller than your hip. I'm 15 inches smaller so does that rule it out?). Idk. My bust and shoulders are wider than my hips, my thighs are full and rounded, I have muscular legs, but I have a flat-ish butt

I think it is more about waist definition, but big boobs and butt/hips matter too, and yes they should be about equal size.

I feel that way too, but if you found out that the girl in the picture shown had measurements 38-23-39 (which aren't perfectly equal) would that make her any less hourglass than she appears in your opinion?

no she would still be an hourglass, it doesn't have to be perfectly equally.

Most people don't measure things in inches. If I can't decide whether her bust or her hips are the main attraction, and if her waist is, as you say, signficantly less than either, then she qualifies in my book.

I suppose I decide when she bends over, and her waist sort of disappears between her hips and breasts. That's an hourglass!

My definition is she should look like an hourglass.

If you have a small waist, wider hips and wider shoulders.

I honestly don't think bust size counts, because the broadest point is at the shoulders, not the bust.

You could be an hourglass with shoulders broader than the hips, but you'd look like you have an athletic figure!

It doesn't really matter what shape other people think you have. If you want to feel good about your figure, do it. Don't rely on other people to give you validation, because tons of people are a**holes. :)

In my previous question I was actually looking for advice on how to dress for my shape (which I guess is a big boobed pear to some) but I only got about 2 or 3 answers (the rest were just people telling me that I wasn't an hourglass lol). But you're right. It doesn't matter what other people think for the most part. It's about what you like/do.

Based on that picture, I don't think she is hourglass.

My definition of hourglass is small at the top, but wide at the bottom (big hips).

To me Alicia Keys has the perfect pear shape (her body is gorgeous) but in my opinion that's because she's only a B-cup. If she were like me and an F-cup I think that would qualify her to be a pear shape (I think it's kinda hard to have big boobs and be a pear)

What is the difference between hour glass and pear shape? Isn't both being bigger on the bottom and smaller up top? (not necessarily having a big butt, but wide hips if anything)

The pear shape is smaller up top and the hourglass is larger up top. So, pears would be Beyonce and Amber Rose, and hourglasses would be Scarlett Johannson and Christina Aguilera link in my opinion anyway
