He cut himself in front of me!!

My boyfriend of one month got mad at me the other night. He has been upset over a lot for past year and I said something stupid and that triggered a fight between us. Not to mention we were kinda drunk. Any way , he ran into kitchen , got a knife, smiled and started to dig it into his leg and make a long mark. he then put it hard against his neck and I pulled it away but he grabbed it by the sharp part like he dint care it would hurt him. he looked crazy!

He then took knife back and slapped his wrist with it. he smiled too! he was serious thought. after putting it against his neck again hard he threw it and went to sleep. next morning I asked him why he did it and he said "don't dig , it wasn't your fault I don wanna talk about it" I feel scarred by that and it was disturbing to witness. I thought he'd kill himself right there! was he really angry and trying to get it out ro was that act a form of manipulation ? what happened I'm so confused? Why did he do this in front of me?

Um, he is insane and doesn't know how to deal with anger or pain. he needs serious help ASAP

I think he probably did it because of something he's mad about and not talking about. The big factors here are how his parents were, and whether or not he's happy. It's obvious he's dealing with unhappiness somehow, and life doesn't have to be that way. This is not something you want to get into because these are the kinds of fights people end up having their whole lives. He needs help, from a life coach or a counselor he trusts, in my opinion. Another big factor here is that you were both drunk, and this probably wouldn't have happened if you had gotten drunk. So please consider not getting drunk for a while. I mean you don't have to not drink, but just don't drink a lot. People who cut themselves regularly have an addiction to it because it is a way of quick endorphin release. He may know how to do that, and he may not. It sounds like you could use some help in some therapy, preferably for both of you. Your problems don't have to come to this. You guys need to talk more I think, because these problems are small and they're building up, and becoming that serious. He could have accidentally cut himself right there and died or went to the hospital whether he wants to admit that or not. I know you love each other, and it sounds like you're digging for a deeper love. Sometimes the way to a deeper love is distance, though. You know better what he needs that I would. You need some advice from some professionals if possible, and even just an older couple if you want to ask somebody in an older couple.

I think he's depressed and he wants you to help him, but he's going to take you down with him if he doesn't get the help he needs, which you cannot give him.

I don't know why he did this infront of you. I had a friend a long time ago, who would cut himself and show me pictures. Who , everyday, would tell me he wanted to die and wanted to kill himself. Your boyfriend needs help baby girl. And as much as you might want to help him you cant. I was so young when this happened to me, that I pushed that person out of my life because I started to suffer from depression because of him.

You need to get him help, and next time this happens, CALL FOR HELP. He needs it because something is wrong !

That sounds very disturbing don't drink with him anymore and when he drinks stay away from him. When some people drink they do the dumbest S**T so don't do it and it's not your fault. Your man just gets crazy when he drinks so don't do it anymore with him.

He's obviously depressed. People cut themselves to let themselves know that they still have emotions, and can still feel. If he did such drastic acts as that he most likely has done it before. But this time wanted to show someone how he felt. He wants people to know that he is hurting.

I wouldn't say he wants to hurt you unless he is mad at you. He has a chemical imbalance.

I would suggest either talking to him if he wants to...kind of push a little, he needs to talk to someone. Or go to his parents. If you care about him, and he's lot of legal age his parents can forcefully put him in a psyche ward, which is what he needs.

He needs to get away from objects that he can harm himself with, and he needs to get on anti-depressants. He might be i-polar as well.

But I would suggest leaving him. But try to get him some help before you go.

He will only get worse, and may hurt you in his frustration. And since he used a knife, and cut himself so much, I would think he would really hurt you.

So get out of the relationship, and don't have contact with him. Having contact with him will only make you want him back, and it will give him hope. Break it off. It is a really unhealthy relationship.

im sorry but this isn't the right place to ask that.. I'm not saying that because its not a relationship or dating question.. I'm just saying that because.. its f***ing scary... that guy needs some serious help.. you should seek professional help for what he did... all we can do as strangers is to ask you to talk to a real person who can help you..a close family member preferably.. and if I were you I would stay away from him.. if anything slightly went wrong last night, you could have been seriously hurt too.. I don't know if you should go as far as the police.. but then again maybe you should.. will someone else please help me on this?

He has serious issues, and is in need of professional help. Tell him your relationship is over unless, A.) He makes an appointment (and keeps it) with a psychiatrist, and B.) He makes a lifetime choice of either you, or the bottle. No exceptions! Otherwise you could be in for a life of abject misery, at best. Your life could hang in the balance, so act accordingly.

Whatever triggered this rage, a dispute , your words, alcohol, cannabis or something deep in him, don't see him again, NEVER: this time he nearly controlled his temper a bit and only cut himself, turning his rage against himself, next time it may be YOU.

I agree. You cannot predict who he's going to focus his rage on, it's better to be safe than sorry. Stay away.
