My Boyfriend Wants To Join The Marines?

What should I do? I mean me and him talked about it and he knows I don't want him to. But the only reason he does is because right now his dad is in the marines.

So I'm guessing he wants to be like his dad. And right now I'm just really confused what. Should I do? I'm happy in a way but then again I'm not. He told me last night I was like really sad. And then just wanted to cry my eyes out. But he said he was sorry and everything was going to be ok but I'm not sure. And this is all I can think about should I do?

Reality is that I've met some guys that went quite a few guys that left for the service; they had long term girlfriends at the time they left or they were even married. Most of these guys came back to find out their significant other had either cheated, or totally changed. That also applies to the women---all the guys that came back, had radically changed and they were not the same from before they left.

You cannot stop him from doing what he wants to do, but given that you're so young, time to move on and meet guys that will be around. Honestly, given your age, you will keep on mentally maturing and what you think is love now, won't be the same of what you think love is 5 years from now. Just the same if you look back when you were 12 and compare the mentality you had back then. My point is, things won't be ok. Life is not that simple. Best to let him go, and you move on.

Well I guess its good that you two talked, but obviously you still have some things you'd like to share with him so maybe it wouldn't hurt to talk to him again and tell him what your feeling and stuff. But my advice would be to let him go. You can't stop him from doing what he wants to do and if your relationship with him is really strong than trust me, it can survive through the toughest times.

If you feel like it won't work out than maybe its time to move on but I'd definitely suggest talking to him some more, its probably not easy on him either and like it or not he trusted you by telling you this and maybe he was looking for some support. I hope everything works out. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I've told my boyfriend that I don't want to be the one person that holds him back from what he wants to do in life, but to please just make sure that's what he really wants to do. I am willing to wait on him, but if he signs it will be for a definite amount of time, not forever. then we will get married after that.

It all depends on how serious your relationship is. But be supportive, it's his life

Well as your boyfriend you should respect what he wants to do. His dad is a hero to him and he wants to be a hero too. You can send him stuff overseas and keep in contact with him. This is his dream, and no matter what you shouldn't stop him from his dream.
