Do guys get their friends to spy on girls?

i had a lot of friends in high school and I had them watching her when I wasnt around.

not listening to her conversations but just checking out who she hangs out with and what she does.

i actually found out one of my exs was cheating on me that way .

My mom's ex did. His friend would actually record conversations on his phone and if anything came up that he thought his buddy should know about my mom he would send it to him.
