1. Stay Active


Being healthy doesn’t mean you have to exercise every day. Many of us can only hit the gym a few times a week. So, on the day(s) you cannot run on the treadmill or attend your BODYPUMP class, dance in front of the mirror, walk around while you’re talking on the phone or vacuum your apartment. It doesn’t matter what you choose to do as long as you participate in at least 20 minutes of activity each day. Seriously, it takes longer to watch a sitcom.


2. Drink Water


Drinking a good amount of water has many health benefits. It helps flush out toxins, prevent cramping, clear your complexion, control your weight and so much more.

How much water should you drink? Most experts usually recommend at least eight 8 oz. glasses per day. That’s equivalent to a little more than 5 bottles of beer. If you don’t like plain, flat water, try sparkling water or flavored water. All of these choices can help keep you healthy and hydrated.


3. Sleep


Most adults need about 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep a night. However, some can function on 6 hours, while others need at least 9 hours. The variation depends on each person’s genetics and hereditary, as well as his or her lifestyle.

Getting a good amount of sleep each day can help you perform better athletically, improve your memory and enhance your sex life. Additionally, it is beneficial for mood and weight control. So turn off your TV, and make it a priority to catch some Z’s.


4. Eat Vegetables


You don’t have to eat celery for dinner, but you should eat some vegetables with your meals. The right mix of vegetables can help prevent heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and more. Eating vegetables can also help you maintain your current weight or lose weight.


So at your next meal, order a side salad or steamed vegetables, add some spinach to your macaroni and cheese or include some lettuce and tomatoes in your burger. Every little bit counts.


5. Eat Snacks


Eating five times a day is better for you than eating three times a day. I'm not joking. Health experts recommend eating three meals and two snacks each day.

This doesn’t give you the go ahead to chow down on that donut mid-morning though. By snacks, I mean healthy snacks, like a handful of raw almonds or an apple. Healthy snacks are the key to maintaining a good metabolism. Plus, when you’re not starving at mealtime, you are less likely to binge.
