Serious question: how do people not love hockey?

I notice a strong Canadian presence here, so I'm sure most of you guys will be on board with me. This is mostly for my American brethren not in New England or the Upper Midwest, namely Minnesota. If you like sports, how can you not be absolutely obsessed with this sport? Fast, physical, and you're on the edge of your seat every time a shot goes on net. And the bonus feature: these guys can just punch the shit out of each other if they get pissed off or need to send a message to someone to tone down the shenanigans. Its halfway self-policed, and that's amazing. And if you don't enjoy watching two people beat the shit out of each other, well, I'm not sure where you took a wrong turn in life.

I just finished watching the 1st period of Game 2 between the Bruins and Canadiens, and I'm SO JACKED UP! I'm ready to jump out of my skin. And I'm a football guy first, I never even got to play hockey on an organized team, so its not like I'm a hockey bro trying to sell you on my favorite sport. Its #2 on the totem pole, but not by much. Baseball and basketball are waaaaaaayyyyyyy in the distance. I like my sports to be physical, and those games just don't deliver in that regard. If you're not knocking people over, you're doing it wrong.

More venting here than anything, but for you non-hockey fan sports fans, I gotta ask...what the hell is not to like? I feel like I could seamlessly transition to being Canadian, haha, love that shit. Maple syrup and donuts are cool too, haha.

Granted, coming from the American South no doubt strongly influences my distaste for hockey. I grant that. I've tried to watch it. But it doesn't do anything for me. Just as with soccer, watching a game that typically ends in a score of 2-1 or 1-0 isn't compelling to me. I think it will always be a very distant 4th place in America among the major sports. But I recognize it's a big deal for Canucks and Upper Midwestern Americans.

I don't know, I just don't like to watch it. I don't really like to watch any sports to be honest. Besides snowboarding (freestyle) and extreme sports (like stunting on bikes etc.), that just looks awesome.

Nice! Am I crazy or do I remember you saying you're from Chicago? I'm still mad at the Hawks for last year's Cup Finals. My boys choked that one away in legendary fashion. Great series, and those guys were all class. Just couldn't hate them. It was so much easier to hate the Canucks a few years ago, haha. Punks!

Its got that razzmatazz, for sure, haha. Not sure who wins this year. Bruins have a great team, but this Canadiens team, while not as good as us, is real fast and a tough matchup, since we're based around being big and physical. L.A. Kings and the Anaheim Ducks look good, and I'm not sleeping on the Chi either. Should be a great playoffs, as always.

Oh, that's brutal. Probably like soccer (football) for me. Its never on TV, and every time I watch I'm falling asleep. Kick the ball, chase after it, kick the ball, chase after it, kick the ball, chase after, then collide lightly with someone and fall like you were just shot. Final score 1-0, haha. Probably gotta watch a lot to fully appreciate it.

I played football (American football, if you're from outside of the US) until I was 33. That's my true passion. But yes, I am/was an actual athlete. Now I'm old and slow and relegated to sports on TV, haha. All good though, if you aren't into watching in general it makes sense.

I used to play football, too. I still get together with friends for a game every now and then, but yeah, getting a little old for that shit.

Watching just doesn't entertain me like playing does. I still watch major games of my favorite teams and the super bowl, but that's about it.
