Short of going the prescription drug route, you can try warm milk or camomile tea to see if it helps. You can also eat turkey.( I know it sounds funny But it had tryptophan in it that makes you sleepy). Sleep I'm a place that has no lights to distract. They say total darkness is best. You could also try finding some of that music that is supposed to stimulate certain brainwaves to make you sleepy.

Most guys don't like drinking tea, but, try it. A nice warm tea before bed should relax your body and mind.
Also, try over the counter sleeping pills!
Best reason and opinion here. You don't have to "lift" so a gym isn't always necessary. Come home and run around the block or do some pushups til your arms hurt. Do crunches. Laziness is entirely your reason for not working out. Not working out is why your body is entirely uneasy and won't let you sleep. Humans NEED regular forms of exercise to operate and function properly.

Try vigorous exercise about an hour before bed. If you're body is extremely physically tired then your mind will have less say in the matter. Other than that I think you should try to retrain your brain to think about other things. I will think about random things like various different ways to decorate a room lol. Soothing classical or instrumental music should help too.

My mind can shout through the effects of the pills if it really wants to :(I use stress fix by aveda (it's an oil that helps you sleep)
I have so many problems sleeping too... it sucks :/Go see a doctor and ask them if you can take Trazodone. Trazodone usually works good on me but I have found that it will only work like a couple of days in a row, but at least some times I'm able to catch some sleep when it's impossible otherwise.
You need to exercise more.
