Can I bring my boyfriend with me to the gyno?

Does anyone know if I'd be allowed to bring my boyfriend with me into the gynocologist's? I'm 17 and won't have my mom with me and I'm really really scared of going alone. My boyfriend was sweet and offered to come with me, but I don't know if they'd allow that?

It turns out they did let him in, they didn't even question why I wanted him with me.

BellePepper, your last comment is offensive and insensitive. If a girl/women wants to have her boyfriend in the room as support that is her right and her choice. There are many reasons why a women may have fear and anxiety regarding such procedures such as past trauma. If the doctor needs to discuss certain things with her such as asking about domestic abuse than the boyfriend should not be in there while that discussion occurs but she has every right to have him in the room during the physical part of the exam. If the doctor has a problem with that then find a different doctor.

They won't allow that. They don't let husbands in there half the time either. It's unnecessary. Your parents only if your a minor.

I think it will be easier for you if you go without your boyfriend. The gynecologist asks a lot of personal questions and it might be hard to answer them with the boyfriend there. Better to be open and honest with the doctor and yourself. You can totally do it alone :)

If you are under 18 they probably won't mind him being in the waiting room but he most likely wouldn't be allowed into the room with you.

You are allowed to bring someone but that person is typically a female relative. You could always call your gynecologist's secretary and ask. He/She might make an exception if you explain your situation.

They won't care if he waits in the waiting room. If you want him to go into the room with you that is a different story. I don't think they are going to allow him in the room with you.
