Can contact lenses that changes the eyecolor be dangerous?

I've heard they can be bad for your eyes if you wear them for too long at once. Something about how the pigmentation covering coloured contacts will lower the amount of oxygen coming to your cornea..
Not sure how credible that is but that's something you should ask a professional first if you plan on wearing coloured contacts for longer periods of time.
