Thick is a body shape used to describe a body shape created when the thighs, hips, and possibly upper torso as well (chest, etc) are significantly larger in proportion to the waist than on an average girl. In most cases, when a girl has that body shape, it's because she allowed herself to get overweight and was fortunate enough (through genetics) to have the weight gather in those spots. However some girls get it by building muscle in those key areas instead. That, to me, is when it's attractive.

It is a hard call - I don't have a particular body image in mind - A lot depends on how girl carries herself which leads to part two if a girl feels beautiful there is a good chance she is beautiful. Over the years I have been attracted to women of different sizes so I am not sure I have a "body type" anymore than a "personality type"

I don't have a clear definition. A very high percentage of women are aesthethically acceptable.
As for your second question, there is mostly no reason. In the 17th century, body fat was a sign of wealth, and thus thought of as good.
