Can you use soda bottles instead of dumbbells?

I have weekly exercises, and I am on my week 2, and it requires 2x 5 pound dumbbells (5 pound each). I don't have those, but I heard that I can use soda bottles, Is it enough with 2 liter bottle each instead of 5 pounds dumbbells? any tips?

Seriously, it's not about how or expensive it is, Its just that I were too lazy to buy these.

Couple of problems... first is the easiest. 2L of water only weighs 4.4lbs.

Second... the ability to hold the bottle properly for the exercise MIGHT be an issue. Dumbbells are made so that you can hold them properly with a nice handle and all. 2L bottles don't have said handle.

I applaud your stick-to-it-iveness in trying to figure out how to continue your exercises.

You can use any weight. Dumbbells are just more convenient to hold. Also, a 2 litre bottle might not be heavy enough for a lot of people.

I got a cheap set from Argos a few months back, with barbell and a dumbell and a load of weights and it was only about £40. I think it's worth getting.

Yes, it would work. 2l water weighs like 2kg which is 2kg*2.2= 4.4lbs.

It might work, it'll be close to 5 lbs. Problem is that the bottle is far bigger than a dumbell. Unless you have massive hands its gonna be hard to hang on to. You'll end up with a hell of a strong grip if you do.

That's what I was thinking. It would be more of a pain to get a grip on them... plus you're shaking up a whole ton of soda and that's not going to end well lol

Just go to walmart or something and get a little 8lb dumbbell. They only cost like 10 bucks at the most

Well, you could also always try pushups or something... but if you're using 5lb weights I'm guessing that's out of the question too, right?
