I am trying to lose fat in a short period of time. My belly fat is my main concern.
I eat about 1,200 calories a day. All healthy carbs, fats, and protein. I love studying nutrition.
If yr goal is fat loss, then, quit the running, and go on a PSMF diet. 0 carbs, 0 fat, and about 200 grams of protein per day. Hit the gym twice a week, and do low-rep (6-8 rep) sets to failure, 2 sets per bodypart.
That's the optimal route. It WILL work. It can't not work, if you actually stick to it.

Running is a weird weird beast, especially for women.
Ever see those girls who are kinda toned in the stomach, but have weirdly more cellulite than you'd expect them to have?
Yeah.
Running will do that, if you do not understand EXACTLY how to time nutrients, meals, and stimulants.
Srsly.
Cardio in general, but, especially running. Can mobilize non-stubborn fat stores (on yr stomach and such), but, if you eat the wrong shit at the wrong time afterward, that fat will be RE-deposited in the "stubborn" areas, where it is much much harder to lose.
Given what you've written here, you are at very high risk of that exact thing.
Much better to do what's suggested above.
Among other things, I train professional fitness models, who get down to absolutely inhumanly low %'s of bodyfat and then maintain those levels for months. Sometimes years.
Ya know how much sustained cardio they do?
Zero.
None.
Nada.
0.
Zip.
They don't do ANY cardio.
They just know how dieting works -- and how diet-breaks and cheat days work, too -- and they have self-restraint by the shitload.
If they do anything that resembles cardio at all, it's high-intensity intervals (HIIT), and it never ever EVER lasts more than 10-12 minutes.
I know few girls like to hear this, but lifting weights (not just those stupid 1-3 pound weights, but actual heavy weights where you can just get to 12 reps) is going to help you burn more fat in conjunction with doing your cardio, vs. just doing cardio, and at the end you won't be flabby skinny. Running can put a lot of stress on the body, but building up the muscles in not just your legs, but in your arms, back, shoulders, etc., will help you better be able to run. You will not look like the hulk because you simply aren't eating enough or consuming enough intense protein and supplements, nor do you have the testosterone to bulk up if that worries you.
A mix of proper nutrition, exercise and patience is all you need just keep eating and meeting your bodies dietary needs and keep the pace with your exercising and you will see a change over time but you have to keep it up it will take a while, but all forms of exercise will do you can do just cardio or your can do strength training with weights or a combination of both of them this is what I would recommend as a professional trainer in training.
Though if you want some extra help check out the book shredded chef it has tons of delicious recipes that will specifically help you get lean or build muscle.
"in a short period of time"
'running' 8 miles in say 2 hours is no good. Running a distance but with light effort will do you little to no good.
You need intensity. You could even forego 8 miles and run a single mile for the fastest time possible. And in my opinion, you should.
its not light effort. i could barely breathe and was sweating like a pig

If you want to lose weight fast, you need to life some weights—seriously.
You burn more fat while doing cardio, but your metabolism quickly returns to normal once you stop. The same is not true for lifting. After you lift, the metabolism boost lasts for hours. So weight lifting, burns fat faster and more effectively than cardio. If you love to run, do both.
it definitely can, but you'll become lean. if u combine it with weights that's a good idea.
anyway yeah 1200 cal is a good amount to aim for. i know this is a bit unhealthy but i cut carbs out of my diet when i wanted to lose heaps of weight in a short time and it worked.
It did for me. (: I need to go back to jogging. But don't stress your joints in the knee thats what happen to me. lol I lost my motivation and well now i am up to 178 ouch I use to be smaller. So just keep pushing. Oh added me on myfitnesspal. com app!
You're burning more calories than you're taking in so yeah you'll lose weight. If you're more concerned with toning your body though you'll need to do strength and resistance training not just cardio.
It definitely can however you need to throw in some resistance training! You'll end up seeing results faster and more muscle growth especially in the stomach area because thats the easiest
Based on what you've said you will def lose body fat, remember to not get impatient else it'll destroy your motivation, good luck!
if you don´t lose weight, you were wrong about your cloric intake xD yeah like this you will surely lose weight.
Considering running burns calories, it will in fact cause you to lose weight.
you will lose weight.
No, you will just get muscle
