You should work out in intervals. If you belong to a gym this is perfect. Do 30 to 40 minutes of cardio but switch it up. Maybe do one machine one day and one another or 20 minutes of each, or 10 minutes of 3 machines. Like switch between the treadmill, elliptical, bike, Stairmaster, etc.
And always start off slow and go fast. With the treadmill, you should start off walking, then build up gradually to speed walking then running then gradually slow down. Intervals burn more fat and are healthier and also more effective. Running at one flat speed all the time as your only cardio will not be the most effective.
Besides for the cardio, do weights. Like those machines that focus different parts of your body. This burns fat too. If you get a full body workout of this combined with cardio, like 20-30 min or so, it will be your optimal workout.
And go to the gym 3-5 or maybe 6 times a week, take a day off. And don't do the same workout every single day, switch it up. Maybe some days do only cardio and then some days only very little cardio and machines for your whole body. Variation is key and it makes working out more bearable.
But what you eat is also important, especially because working out builds muscle which weighs more than fat so you may look thinner but not weigh that much less. Go by the look not the scale.

yes, this will help a lot, wait until that that pace feels comfortable and you re a bit fitter then slowly start to incease it.
I would recommend cutting your calorie count by a small amount and then gradually cutting lower until your desired amount, so your body adapts to less food intake, do enough physical excersise, do some free weights, treadmill, or anything physical that can add to your calorie bur amount, i.e. walking the dog, taking the trash out instead of your friend, etc. That's the most effective way for losing body fat. And make sure the foods you eat are, lean meats, veggies, fruit, and only drink water. Liquid calories are never good.
It will help a lot with keeping weight off and make you healthier. The impact on weight will be marginal. If you do not eat a single calorie more in response to this exercise, you might lose 10 lbs over 6 months like this, but probably it will stoke your appetite.
I would suggest working up to doing it for 60 minutes (this will be better for you, and sure, burn a few more calories) 3 times a week. On the other days, do something with some more resistance and higher intensity, kettlebell work for example,.

This will start making your legs sore if you don't vary the routine and do some old fashioned oserunning or aerobics, or stretching, along with it. But yes, you'll slowly lose weight IF you have a diet program as well! If you're eating pizza and burgers, this won't lead to any weight loss..!
Exercising won't do much unless you change your diet because to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat in a day.
