Why would any individual who was sent against there will as a minor by their parents to a mental hospital have relationships with them as an adult?

My parents did it to me and it was by far the worse experience of my life. As soon as I could I severed all contact with them for it. They claim they did it because they were worried that I was suicidal (I wasn't) and that they did it because "they loved me" and they "were worried about me." However, them doing what they did didn't make my depression better it made it worse and I'm sorry you don't lock people up because "you love them".

And even if they did have good intentions, people in Somalia who mutilate the genitals of their daughters think that they are doing it for their own good. But that in no way justifies it.

Why? Probably because they wasn't were there, but heard that this place supposedly helps people.

I was in similar hospital too. Due unsuccessful suicide attempt I asked father to call hospital willingly. I wanted medical care to prevent complications with liver. They indeed took me in, gave medical care for liver, but also they administered me strong depressants and something else. Experience was horrible.

After I was dismissed I didn't have any anger toward father. I called this situation on me myself.
First, maybe he just didn't know, but helped me to leave hospital faster.
Second, he indeed wanted to help me somehow, because after some other unsuccessful suicide attempt, he said to me that he feels angry and powerless/helpless. He didn't know how to help, but wanted to solve situation somehow.

How much knowledgeable any usual person about things about mental hospital? I can assume on level - there are only psychos and it's place to help people. But that's a facade, few know what is this place, what happens there, what kind of people work there, etc.

Your parents wanted to improve situation, to help you, but they fault is, probably, a lack of proper knowledge.
Caring relatives are a great thing, boon in life. They are only people in whole World who love you unconditionally, who care about you without any aim to gain something back. When you alone and cast them aside - you'll be truly alone in whole World, probably until you meet a dear one.

You can try to imagine yourself in their "shoes". No need to make parallels to other cases, things in this World. There are worse cases, there are better ones. Each case is unique.
Just contemplate, meditate on your situation, feelings. Try to look at situation from their side too, imagine their feelings. What would you did, by knowing better now? It was a trying event in your life. Which lessons you've learned? Did it helped to you to be a better parent for your own child now or in future? Take your time, contemplate why it happened on your life road at all?

In over-all it's a serious decision and I think I'm not allowed to tell you what to do. Decision is all yours and responsibility for it too. I just wanted to provide some points of other view. Don't know if I was successful or not.

Well they said the same thing to me but my experience in the hospital didn't help my depression, it only made me worse and start to contemplate suicide. When I disowned them I said "I hope you're proud of yourselves".

And I did talk to my psychiatrist and he said that based on the info available at the time it was the wrong course of action and quite frankly it sounds like they were being coercive.

Pychiatrist is a stranger. One psychiatrist said me "I can't help you", another "How he could said that". As many people and so opinions.

I have a feeling that you're wavering. Wavering in your decision. You felt hurt, in that moment it seems you wanted to share this pain with your parents too, to hurt them too.
But now it seems you're contemplating, trying to justify your decision, trying to decide if that decision was good or bad.
I won't judge, nor you, nor your parents. We all have our lessons, we all have our trying times. What is the best course of action in each our own case? If I only had known.
I'll just say that it's nice that you think about it, contemplating.

Of course, I may be wrong altogether. But if you keep thinking about this trying lesson, if you mentioned it here, in this place, maybe it's not yet over, maybe it's not so simple as it seems or we want it to look. Either way, I'll just repeat - take you time to think.

The psychiatrist I talked too had known me for 10+ years and was familiar with the case.

Also, they said that they would only let me out if I agreed to be more obedient and well behaved.

Yes, it seems there is indeed more to this story than it seems.
I find it's better to have at least a "gray ground" with ones who was close to you, at least in the past. I see no point in ending of interactions, only if other side continues to torture the other side. By having a "gray ground" you're free in your decision not to forgive them, you're free not to like things they have done, but you're still can interact with them, there is ground for talking, interacting about other things. But by cutting down relationships there will be no such ground for this.

I don't blame you. I severed all contact with my mother for less. She's the one that needed help.

I voted yes, but with like edits. I don't think it's JUSTIFICATION. If they were wrong then they were wrong and they should apologize and make whatever amends that need to be done. But from the perspective of the party that was wronged, I would be more likely to forgive them if I could tell that they really meant to do what they thought was best for me.

I wish my boyfriend felt like u... instead he believes the 'we did it for your own good because we love you' bullshit.

Some people just suck as parents and think it should be easy. I would suggest talking it through and really listening then telling them exactly how and why you feel the way you do xx
