Girls, How common is it to be late for your period?

Is it unusual to start your period a couple days later than you expect it? Besides the obvious reason, why else would it come late?

From yr pictures I'm guessing that you're tall and thin, like me. Mb not as extreme as I was... (when I was 16, I was 6'2" and about 125 lbs) but, still, you look like you might naturally have a BMI under 18.

If that's the case, then you might experience amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) just as a natural result of being so slim.
The sex hormones that kick-start menstruation originate from fat -- both bodyfat and dietary fat -- so, if you don't carry a certain amount of fat on yr body, you may just randomly miss periods.

If you are NATURALLY slim, this isn't necessarily cause for concern. Between ages 14 and 25, I missed a period about once a year or so -- just totally at random.

Do you think that might be it?

I don't necessarily think you should post yr height and weight, but, go ahead and plug them into an online BMI calculator (just google "bmi calculator" to find one). If you get a value under 18 or so, then, you may miss periods just because you're naturally slender -- and that's nothing to worry about. (Of course, if you're sexually active, you should still take pregnancy tests!)

I don't think I'm super thin and it's usually pretty much right on time.

K, well, then, basically what @mainameissunshine said. Adolescent periods are sometimes just weird.

Sometimes if you start hanging around other females, your cyclus might start to syncronize, which might cause your period to be late or sometimes it ight come earlier.
It can also just be your hormones, stress, excercise or lack therof.
Sometimes if you have gone through a lot of change or a big change in your life, like moving, breaking up or other things like that, it can make your period late.

I'm very irregular myself always have been. Sometimes my cycle can be as long as 40-47 days. This doesn't happen too much though. I'm more irregular when stressed though this last year I've been stressed constantly and my period is very irregular because of it.

A lot of things can effect that , Major Weight Loss or Excessive Exercise, stress, A Thyroid Irregularity, Polycystic Ovary Symptom, Chronic Diseases Like Celiac, Your Birth Control, premature menopause, and pregnancy.

It's normal. It may be something you ate, it may be stress, it may just be because our bodies are not perfectly predictable. Who knows? It's not something to stress about unless it's more than a week late and it keeps happening.

It depends. Some girls are just irregular. And looking at your age it could really just be that since we are quite young it tends to happen every now and then. If it keeps happening or is really weird to you in any then talk to your doctor. 👌
